Raw Juice Flow Control, Screening, Heating and Liming

چکیده

In preparation for defecation clarification of raw or mixed juice, the juice is screened, heated, limed and flashed, while the flowrate of juice to the clarification process is carefully controlled. Despite the potential for enhancement or optimisation in each.of these pre-treatment areas, the past 50 years of South African Sugar Technologists' Association (SAST~) proceedings offer only six papers dealing specifically with aspects of pre-treatment. This paper reviews some of their findings in the light of current practice, discusses pres~nt installations in the South African sugar industry and considers probable future directions.
